Why Stoneybatter?
Stoneybatter is the neighbourhood my Grandad grew up around, so I have a personal reason to love this place. That said, you're sure to enjoy walking around if it's 'proper' Dublin you're looking for! While Stoneybatter is an up-and-coming area, with some buildings having been regenerated into shops or cafes, it's still got a very authentic Dublin vibe.
I was lucky enough to visit the area with a true local, my Grandad. We visited the house he grew up on Aughrim Street, a short walk from Stoneybatter. We were given a tour by the couple living there now, a true testament to how welcoming the Dubliners are, and we were so thankful because it was an amazing experience! We then took a wander down to Stoneybatter and visited the Church of the Holy Family where my Grandad made his Holy Communion. Whilst there we bumped into a local who shared mutual connections with my Grandad, really showing a true echo to the past.
Authentic Dublin Vibe
The Local of all Locals
As I've said in most of my posts about Dublin, it's the place for a good pint and the craic. The Glimmer Man pub has to be one the coolest pubs I've ever been in. Inside it's filled with weird and wonderful bits and bobs collected by the owners and locals over the years, and plays THE best music. As Stoneybatter is a bit out of central Dublin where all the tourists hangout, you're sure to meet a local and have the proper craic! Get chatting, have pint, and enjoy!
