Bouldering at Psycho Block Climbing
Psycho Block climbing gym is located in the northern side of Pokhara, just off the main lakeside road. Guillaume, the owner, set the wall up a few years ago and it has been a hit ever since. The wall offers specifically bouldering routes for all abilities from complete novice to hard-core wads: colour coded routes mean that problems are abundant across the grades. Shoe hire and chalk is available along with training facilities, outdoor slackline and even a veggie BBQ on Fridays. Definitely check this place out if you fancy a workout! The lively friendly environment makes this place far superior to the walls in Kathmandu. 2 hours of climbing will cost 500 NPR with and extra hire charge of 125 NPR for shoes and chalk each.
Vyayamshala Gym & Fitness Centre
Fit in a good old fashioned workout in this state of the art gym! Classes are held and you can get a week pass for 1,800NPR. There's free water re-fills and also an on site cafe with smoothies, coffee and protein treats!
Films at Blind Tiger or The Movie Garden
Both located in the north of Pokhara lakeside, Blind Tiger and the Movie Garden have daily showings of film, TV and documentary. The Blind Tiger is a covered rooftop bar area with fully stocked bar and a mixture of Nepali and Western food – entry is free if you are eating or drinking. Two different films are shown daily at 6:30pm and 8:30pm, we watched the new season of Rick and Morty as well as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The owner, a really chatty English bloke, is a massive film nut so shows some obscure films as well as old classics! The Movie Garden, just down the road, is an open air cinema with bar and food. Although we didn’t go here, we have it on good authority that it is worth a visit! 2 different films are shown daily at 7pm and 9pm and are usually popular, classics or recently released films – the running order is displayed outside on the main road. Entry is 350NPR and a beer around 500NPR.
Visit Shanti Stupa (World Peace) Pagoda
The Shanti Stupa sits high on the hill above Phewa Lake on the opposite of the town itself. The Pagoda offers even better views of Fishtail and the surrounding mountains than you get down the town. The pagoda can be accessed by either hiring a boat to the other side of the lake or by driving round to the foot of the hill and walking up.
Hire a Boat on Pokhara Lake
Getting out on Lake Phewa is a great way to spend the day with great mountain views reflecting of the calm water. Doongas, the colourful wooden boats, can be hired from the pier at the end of Phewa Marga road. Prices start at 500 NPR per hour with a driver or 450/1000 NPR per hour/day if you want to paddle yourself. Pedalos can also be hired from here starting at ~600 NPR per hour.
Paragliding
Paragliding is the best way to get an up close view of the peaks surrounding Pokhara. Soaring high up above the hills, beautiful views of Fishtail and beyond begin to show themselves as you cruise round with the vultures. Pokhara is one of the cheapest places in the world to paraglide however prices vary from place to place but be sure to research the companies providing the experience. We booked through Sunrise Paragliding, they were very professional with perfect English and even offered a photography package for a few hundred rupees extra so we got video footage and photos of our flight (hundreds of photos!). You will see the first group of paragliders head off in the morning with their bright chutes lighting up the morning sky. Well worth doing.
There're tons of activities to take part in in Pokhara and we're sure you'll get lost in this beautiful place just like we did! Check out our blog post on our favourite bars and restaurants to hangout in after a long day of activities!
