Off-season in Goa: Best Beaches & Where to Stay
Goa is known for beautiful beaches and for being the party hub of India, however during high season beaches and bars become super crowded and prices are raised everywhere. We visited at the start of September, when it was still monsoon season, however we didn’t see too much rain. Everywhere was pretty quiet, everywhere was VERY green, and we still got some well-deserved beach time! If you want to know the best beaches in Goa during off-season, then read on!

Beaches In & Around Vagator
This was our first stop in Goa, and our first stop in India overall. We stayed here for 6 days (more than enough time), and is definitely a good place to ease yourself into India if you’ve never visited before.
Where to stay: Jungle Hostel
This was the perfect first stop, so many friendly people all in the same boat. We had a private room & bathroom for £9 per person a night. We made so many friends who gave us great tips on the area. If you’re in search of a party then someone at the hostel will know where to go! As it’s off season there’s only select places open, so word of mouth is the way forward for nights out! That said, you could stay in and have a great night in the common room!
Getting Around
There’s TONS of beaches around Vagator, all you need is a means of getting there. We would recommend hiring a scooter (soz mum and dad) for Rs. 300 a day and biking to near by places such as Anjuna and Baga (ask at the hostel for a contact).
Top tip: head to your local post office and get yourself an international driving license for £5.50! You’re a tourist, you WILL be stopped by the police and will have to pay a fine if you don’t have one. As long as you have a helmet on, your international driving license, and home driving license, you have a much smaller chance of being fined!
Vagator beach
Perfect little beach bar that stays open where you can sit out the rain should it come in. Also a great spot to see the moon! Not so great for sunbathing.
Ozran beach
A little harder to find meaning it’s very peaceful. You’ll also find the face of shiva carved into the rocks! Great place to take in the greenery and relax.
Anjuna beach
Not too far from Vagator. We walked, however would ride here as it takes about 40 minutes to walk! More locals, markets and shops around this area.
Baga beach
Definitely the busiest beach, and only 15-20 minutes on the scooter from Vagator! All the beach bars are open, the sand is soft, and there'll be quite a lot of Indian tourists/ holiday makers. We found most males and all females were swimming in their clothes, so respected this and stayed in our shorts and t-shirts, therefore not the best for sunbathing. Definitely the best for a drink and some food on the beach!
