Sightseeing in Jaipur

3-day Guide to the Best Sights in Jaipur

Jaipur can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to planning sightseeing days because there's just so many! To see all of these incredible places, you will need a minimum of 3 full days but we recommend a couple more to explore other things this amazing city has to offer (shopping, food, etc). Read on to find out our 3-day guide to sightseeing in Jaipur.

Day 1: The Amber Fort, Viewpoint & Step Well

Day 1 will be an early start! All of these locations are about 20 minutes from the Jaipur center. We recommend visiting the amber fort when gates open at 8am (Rs.550 for tourists & Rs.100), then spend some time at the viewpoint (you can read our full guide to these places here) and then take a 10 minute walk to the step well. Note: "you can't stand on the steps in the step well", or so we were told... If you are looking to take some cool picture on the steps then you should arrive before 6am before the 'security guard'. If it's just you and the guard then you can give them a hefty tip, but knowing this scam really annoyed us so we grumpily took awkward pictures from the path instead.

Day 2: Hawa Mahal and Albert Hall Museum

Day 2 is a more relaxed one, we never actually went inside these places as we were told the outside was better than inside. Leisurely make your way into town, take a stroll around the pink city (check out our guide here) and then grab some lunch opposite the Hawa Mahal. The Tattoo Cafe & Lounge has the most iconic view of the Hawa  Mahal, and they also offer great food and drink! Relax on the terrace and take in the amazing views. Have a rest before heading out in the evening to see the Albert Hall Museum light show! Check out our food guide to discover a night market close by.

Day 3: The Monkey Temple & The Patrika Gate

Day 3 is a very very fun one! About a 25 minute uber from the pink city, you'll find the Hanuman Ji Temple, or more widely known, 'The Monkey Temple'. This was probably our most memorable experience in Jaipur. The place itself is beautiful, but it's the monkeys that are the real star of this trip! They jump from towers into small pools, take nuts from you and sometimes even sit on your shoulder! Entry is free but there is a Rs.50 camera charge. Note: there are a lot of people there that will help you get a good monkey picture, but they will want a tip! Also, keep you wits about you, whilst they are the tamest monkeys we've seen, they're still wild animals and can be cheeky!

After the monkey temple, take a 30 minute uber to the Patrika Gate. This is the most spectacular gate you'll ever see on a roundabout! The detail and colour is incredible, as it's a bit further out of town it's usually always pretty quiet, and even better, it's free!
